Game of Thrones Season 6 Teaser

Dec03

The first Season 6 teaser is here!

Doesn’t really show anything new, in that it’s all clips from Seasons 1-5 wrapped up in Bran’s ability to see the past (and presumably the future). Like the poster (below), it certainly implies that Jon Snow is important — and therefore presumably will return in some fashion. The R+L=J theory and the shear number of hints about it in the writing leads me to believe there is no way he’s just plain dead. That would leave too many dangling threads. My money is on the Red Lady bringing him back.

Game of Thrones – Price for our Sins

Mar18

Just 2 weeks from Season 2, HBO has released more trailer goodness (3/18/12).  This is one of the best yet, featuring all sorts of footage from the new season, and cut into a more comprehensible story arc.

And the 3/25/12 “Nowhere to Hide” preview:

Game of Thrones – Season 2 Trailer

Jan29

HBO just released a new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 2. This one finally contains a good bit of footage from the new season itself, so check it out.

I like the narration by Varys. He’s one of my favorite actors from the first season and he has such a deliciously cynical perspective. They even got his voice right. It’s a little known fact that one of the side effects of losing the family jewels before puberty (Varys is a eunuch) is that the voice never drops and so remains high and soft. This was frequently noted by historians in antiquity.

The producers also clearly play up Tryrion/Peter Dinklage, no surprise considering his well deserved Emmy win. But then again, A Clash of Kings (which season 2 is based on) is Tyrion’s book. He totally owns it.

Find out about my own fantasy novel here!

Inside Game of Thrones

Dec06

HBO has been working on a new hour drama based on my favorite fantasy series, Song of Ice and Fire, which they’re calling by the title of the first book, Game of Thrones. Last night they ran a 15 minute teaser which can be seen here.

I need to do a full review of the series, which you should all immediately read if you haven’t, but it totally rules, and the HBO show looks fantastic too. The books are long, but incredibly fast paced. Set in a sort of fantastic reinterpretation of late medieval England, the magic is very lightly handled. In fact, the story concentrates on extremely vivid and ambiguous characters caught in a vicious political struggle. It’s very dark and real — giving new meaning to the Tarantino phrase, “I’ma get medieval on your ass.” However, nothing’s gratuitous, just well done.
