Publishers Weekly
Gavin doesn’t sugarcoat the perils of times past, instead exposing his heroes to all sorts of experiences, and Phillips’s dramatically lit spot illustrations amplify the mystery and menace of the setting. The sense of adventure, chemistry between Charlie and Yvaine, and roller coaster plot are sure to appeal to a wide range of readers, who may [be] demanding more.
Kirkus Reviews
A masterful storyteller, Gavin builds a solid plot with believable characters. Charlie is likably ordinary, but his years of social awkwardness and reading biographies make him a smart traveler with knowledge of historical details. Yvaine is not the typical leading lady. She’s gritty and offensive. Alone in time since she was 7, she uses thievery and sex to survive. [Untimed] turns history on its ear, leaving the reader counting the days until Charlie is back for another trip.

A twisty-turny, swashbuckling adventure through time and history. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
Kimberly Kinrade
author of the Forbidden Trilogy
Andy Gavin has fast become one of my favorite authors. I loved his first book, the dark fantasy The Darkening Dream, and I think I love Untimed even more. This is the first book in a new YA Time Travel series, and the premise and characters are so intriguing and unique, I couldn’t help but fall in love.
Andrew Reiner
Executive editor of Game Informer magazine
Andy Gavin’s imagination continues to impress, this time adopting a more whimsical and adventurous tone than his first novel, The Darkening Dream. Untimed melds a steampunk-like world filled with clockwork automatons with perplexing time travel that sends boys to the past and girls to the future. Even with time paradox’s occurring, Gavin does a tremendous job of keeping the timeline in focus all while showing us how crazy altering the past can be.
The Indie Mine
Untimed is a quick read with action consistently moving the story forward, and the separation of scenes within each chapter keeps the story from ever getting bogged down. Author Gavin doesn’t ignore that sci-fi history… there’s definitely enough of a unique spin to keep this story feeling new. Untimed is a fun read for all of the young science fiction fans out there, and may even appeal to older readers.
The Subtle Chronicler
Andy Gavin did things that made me jump with joy and squeal like a fan boy. The novel was brilliantly played out.
A Night’s Dream of Books
5 out of 5 stars!
Gavin’s quirky time-travel tale is a joy to read, not only because of the highly imaginative plot, but also because he has created characters that are vividly real, and very, very funny. I would certainly recommend these wacky adventures and lovable time-traveling pair to anyone who enjoys science fiction spiced with lots of humor, as well as nonstop, edge-of-your seat action. This is sheer fun, although the story’s background science and paradoxical time twists are indeed thought-provoking, thus making it even more appealing!
Caught Between The Pages

I loved this book so much! Just like with The Darkening Dream, Andy Gavin shows that with his novels you need to expect the unexpected. I’d recommend Untimed to anyone looking for a good book to read! I think that most readers can find some element they’ll love in this novel. Time travel, mystery, suspense, romance, witty line and funny scenes…

Mallory Heart Reviews
5 out of 5 stars!
A time travel romance-mystery-steampunkish-science fiction-coming of age story with an endearing set of characters, including the self-effacing (and easily effaced) Charlie. The novel is enjoyable for any readers… It is definitely a neat way to pursue an education in history, as Charlie and Yvaine travel through the different eras, discovering that time travel is also real life: with its dangers, injuries, fun, frivolity, and occasional fatalities.
Nocturnal Book Reviews
9 out 10!
Untimed is a complex and immensely entertaining read which gallops through different eras and really emphasizes the butterfly effect and how everything Charlie and Yvaine do in the past inevitably reflects in the future. Gorgeous, exciting book, highly recommended.
Only God Can Make A Tree
8 out 10!
This plot should not be spoiled. You should read the book. I wanted to get back into it so that I could know what was going on, so the next little bit of explanation for what was happening could reveal itself, so I could see if Charlie and Yvaine just kiss already! This is a thrilling adventure story that is utterly unique – that is a hard mark to hit in this day and age when stories are being done to death… and then done again.

This really was right up my alley. The characters are all very interesting, and honestly how Andy Gavin creates the speech at the beginning of the book when Charlie travels to London 1725, is amazing. The entire read was really fabulous.

This was an amazing experience! The character development was great from beginning to end. Each chapter; I always learned something about them that made me love them even more. The plotline was… wow. Just wow. Awe-inspiring? Addicting? Fabulous? Never wanting it to end? All around, I have to say I’m going to probably re-read it two or three times.

Time travel? Romance? Action-packed adventure? Andy Gavin delivers it all. The time travel in this novel, really kept me intrigued; so much so, that I finished this 325 page book in one day!
Let’s Start Saving Now
I love the premise that if you change one thing in the past, that it can have huge implications. The book is great for getting you to learn and think. It is perfect for young adults.I love when I become so involved in a book that I live and breathe it. I dream about it, and it consumes me. One where I can’t wait to see what happens next. Untimed did all of this for me.

Gavin has given us a fun and energetic romp through time, littered with history, unforgettable characters and charm. The characters are engaging and the clock men become a strange enemy. The interesting retakes on re-made history are fun, and the emergence of the shadow selves adds interest.

Another great story written by an awesome storyteller. Andy has a way of drawing the reader in, and keeping their interest glued to every page. The fantasy elements make the story an extremely entertaining read. The world is beautifully crafted around real life history, adding a deeper meaning to the science-fiction aspect of the story itself. I truly recommend this book.
Delphina Reads Too Much
This is not a “boy” book or a “girl” book, it is an everyone book. I am pretty picky when it comes to time travel and Andy did it right. It was fantastical, yet had some science thrown in there to make it believable and it it clear he did his historical research. Combine that with intriguing characters, a well paced adventure, and some illustrations throw in the mix, and he has written this amazing book.
Promiscuous Diva
This book is so far one of the most amazing Steampunk book i’ve read so far! The story is just flawless. 5 out 5 stars.
All in all, this book has become another favorite of mine. While Untimed can be complex it is genuinely entertaining up until the very last page. In addition, I heard from a little birdie that Mr. Gavin is adapting Untimed for perhaps a movie. I know I have my fingers crossed because this would be an amazing movie and one I would actually pay to go see.
Dear Restless Reader

Untimed is extremely and wildly different from anything I’ve ever read. That being said I absolutely enjoyed it for its purely imaginative creativeness. It is well orchestrated—reading about time travel [that] never felt more fun! Everything about this book is unexpected, strange, and completely fascinating.

Untimed is a really fun romp through time, taking the reader on an adventure to Georgian London, Napoleonic France, and then into an alternate steampunk version of the present day. I was hooked on Charlie from the first page!

Andy pens Untimed with a unique and original plot of time travel. His characters are well developed and believable in this action packed, suspenseful romantic mystery. I was impressed with the fine details Andy gets across in the story line which is rare, and would highly recommend this to all older YA and adult readers.

The manner by which they travel – boys go to the past, girls travel to the future – was different and added a unique twist to these types of stories. The tick-tocks were intriguing characters. While Charlie and Yvaine seem an unlikely match, they work well together. They suit one another.
A Gluten Free Journey
Have you ever wondered if the choices you made on a daily basis impact the grand scheme of life? Does it really matter if you stop for that morning coffee? I say it matters, and so does Andy Gavin, author of Untimed, a riveting new fantasy/science fiction novel for young adults.

9 out 10 stars!
My 11-year old son read this book and I couldn’t get my laptop back because he was stuck to it! I think the book is very cool and epic. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read, no joke. I love this book, if there was a series I would so get it because, well I don’t really know how to put it in words other than I love it.
Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers
Time travel? Check…just not in the traditional sense, if there really IS a traditional sense for this particular category. There’s also this nifty write in where when they time jump their clothes, accents, money, everything changes to fit them into the period to which they’ve landed. History as it is and in the making? Check… with pretty scary and dire consequences if things aren’t put back together again ala Humpty Dumpty. Characters you care to see through to the end? Check… that’s affirmative on all counts; even the bad guys because really, you HAVE to know what happens to them or they come back like Mikey Myers all those times! Family? Check… even if time is threatening to unravel it to oblivion. Love interests? Check!

This book was incredible with the adventure and sticky situations Charlie gets into definitely a great time travel adventure book. One that I’m sure many will come to love!
The Musings of a Book Addict
This was an awesome book with great characters. [Yvaine] is a street smart girl. She is also a time traveler. She explains to Charlie that boys can only travel into the past and girls can only travel into the future. Together, as they try to avoid being killed, they begin a relationship and learn the consequences of creating timequakes. It is a combination of Science Fiction, Mystery, Romance, Adventure all rolled into one.
Buried in Books
The pacing of the book is fast and nothing is overdone. There is something for the history buff in there, the action lover, the time traveler, the romance lover, the adrenaline junkie. I felt like I was on a roller coaster, my adrenaline was pumping especially towards the end waiting for a rescue. Yvaine and Charlie together are a perfect match. She’s smarter than him, but I think he’s just a wee bit more in love with her than she is with him so it makes him a bit more cautious and protective.
Children’s and Teens’ Book Connection
Between connecting quickly to Charlie, the first person narrator of Untimed, and the mystery behind why these men are searching for his father, readers are propelled to continue. Gavin has created a sympathetic, slightly sarcastic character with Charlie, who is so unforgettable his own mother can’t remember his name. His father is gone for months on end. Girls don’t know he exists. Life isn’t coming up roses for him.
Bookwork Babblings
This was a mix of Great Expectations meets The Time Machine, a fantastic combination if you ask me. The cast of characters are amazingly creative, I was drawn in immediately and thoroughly enjoyed this novel.
The Mommy Island
Immediately I was sucked into Charlie’s plight from the first sentence. I loved that the author doesn’t take the time to build his story in the first few chapters he plunges you head first into the action. This book will start your wheels turning and keep them spinning until the end. Andy Gavin weaves his story in such a fashion that you are always wanting more, and anxiously reading to see what surprise comes with the next CHIME.
The Insane Ramblings of a Crazed Writer
Utterly and completely amazing! I love this book! When is the next one coming out because I want it NOW, NOW, NOW! Andy weaves a tale that is original, unique and well-written! The man holds up to his amazing contributions to the Gaming world and now adds gems to the literary one!
Without a Book
I was very impressed by the creativity of the story. Time traveling tales are nothing new, but Gavin adds little components that make his story different and fresh. Not only was the way time travel is performed and its limitations unique, but the clockwork villains were the perfect touch to making a memorable story. The steam punk look of the cover and the villains really sets it apart from anything out there.
Hopelessly Devoted Bibliophile
An extremely interesting twist on time travel! I loved the steampunk addition, liked the time travel pieces. Read this if you are a fan of historical fiction with a twist.
Nana Roberta
Untimed is a well written book… Charlie and Yvaine will keep you on the edge of your seat, turning the pages, as they bounce around time into one misadventure after another. Yvaine will keep you laughing with her zany way with words, being blunt in any given situation. This is a must read!
Living Frugal with Erika
Untimed is one of the best books that I have had the chance to read lately. I sat down to read… before I even knew it, I was almost 5 chapters in! Untimed is a great book that takes you through some historic situations and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Just Me, Myself, and I
I couldn’t put it down. I love the author’s idea of time travel and the way he envisioned it.
Confessions of an Inner Aspen
Andy Gavin built a good foundation for this book series with “Untimed” and I think those readers who enjoy stories about time travel and history, and specifically many plot twists, will find this to be an entertaining read.
Fantasy Literature
Like science class in Las Vegas! Untimed is plenty of fun, [a] fast read with a pair of wise-cracking main characters and fine action sequences. The adventure is exciting. In 1725, Donnie the Dancer is a truly plausible villain. The clockwork people, or Tick-Tocks as Yvaine calls them, are scary and definitely have an agenda. The leaps back and forth through time… are fast-paced and action-packed. It’s a good way to spend a few hours.
Heart Like an Ocean
The characters of Yvainne and Charlie are well developed and true to their time, genders, and ages. The plot is tight-knit. I didn’t notice any obvious holes. The time traveling rules seem to be pretty concrete from beginning to end. The action is well paced. I loved the steampunk aspect of it. I think this is a very interesting genre that is an interesting way to bring aspects of history into YA reading. Very original.
Literary Community
I wonder if Andy Gavin knows that he has unwittingly created a time machine in the form of a book? There is never a moment where it lacks the ability to entertain, and you barely get a chance to to take a breath with all the action! I don’t think I could ever get enough of Charlie and Yvaine! Do yourself a favor and get a copy of this book today!

Pellerini Proclaims
A few pages into the book – and I was hooked. I took to Charlie right away. I thought it was so interesting to hear about history in such a different way.
Ascroft, eh?
There’s no doubt that Untimed is a rollicking, fun read. I enjoyed the story and cared about the characters. And I still want to know how Charlie and Yvaine finally manage to undo their mistakes and restore historical events to their proper order. I guess I will have to wait for the sequel.
Of Thoughts and Words
Strong plot, strong characters, action packed, attention to details, balance of action and dialogue, unique time travel story, illustrations included, exciting jumps through time.
Selena Thinking Out Loud
An interesting ride. I was immediately drawn to this book by its cover art. Then once inside, while reading about Charlie’s journey with his lady love, Yvaine, you find illustrations as well. I read this book in two days over the weekend and really wanted to know where the ending would lead Charlie and Yvaine.
5 Minutes for Books
Charlie Horolage has some unique problems. For one, his apartment is covered with sticky notes to help his mother remember his name. It’s like he’s invisible. One day just after his 16th birthday when he’s in downtown Philadelphia, he sees a strange clockwork man who tries to kill him. The man begins to chime like a clock, and then underneath him, a strange swirling hole opens up. Charlie follows him into the hole, and ends up in London in 1725.
I am, Indeed
I was hooked on this book almost from the beginning. This is a series that young and old alike will find entertaining and addictive. With a deft hand, the author has added in technology real and imagined, opened up questions for history buffs and provided a character that is easy to relate to and enjoy. As a first in a new series; this is a great set up for more, and will leave readers anxious for the next installment.
Naimeless
I fell in love with [Untimed] right away. Reading Untimed was like playing a video game. Andy Gavin clearly knows how to create worlds. This is integral to a great sci-fi/fantasy book, and he NAILS it. While I loved Yvaine, Charlie was just spectacularly real.
Writers and Books
Charlie’s adventures – not only for YA – Fast paced as it may be, I was able to read through it while feeling all the emotions the other “interesting” characters were putting Charlie through – especially Yvaine, another time traveller. I’ll say it is well written, comical, suspense, entertaining and the setting is just right. I truly recommend this book to everyone as the illustrations in this novel are quite amazingly unique and completes the novel quite nicely. I loved it.
Deal Sharing Aunt
How cool would it be to travel in time? How about if when you got there you got to meet Ben Franklin? What would you do if you changed history so that the colonies never became dependant from England?
I really liked the concept of time traveling and how the author dealt with the backlash from changing history. I also liked that each time traveler travels different! There was also a love story with Charlie that I found very interesting.
If you like time travel stories, then you will like this book 🙂
Gimme the Scoop Reviews
I usually don’t like time travel stories but this one was a really awesome exception! Charlie and Yvaine are wonderful characters. It was interesting reading about history thru their story and learned things I must admit I never knew.

This was an amazing adventure! I didn’t even read the blurb before deciding I had to read this book, the cover is out of this world! I was drawn in immediately by the storyline. There’s a mixture of history and future in Untimed. The characters are fascinating and you will quickly have your favorites picked out. There is no down time in this book, it’s one sticky situation after the next happening at break neck speed. You will find yourself reading late and waking up early to find out what happens next.

Andy Gavin did a remarkable job of laying out the historical aspects of Untimed and inserting new characters and alterations in history. The “Tick-Tocks” were some scary dudes. [Gavin] did a great job of opening up a storyline that can pull you in and make you want to read more and more.
Let’s just say that after reading Untimed, I no longer have a desire to travel through time. But I sure do love reading about it!
